AIIS is thrilled to celebrate our very own Ellie Mitchell (Saginaw Ojibwe; Eagle Clan), whose poetry will appear in a new book Kina gda gindaasomi, Kina gda zhibiigemi (We all read, We all write). Please join us in celebrating her accomplishment on Thursday, November 30, from 6 to 7 PM in the Black River Room of the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Ellie Mitchell is a citizen of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan, who are signatories to a number of (broken) treaties with the settler colonial state. Prominent among those treaties is the 1819 Treaty of Saginaw. Signed under duress, that treaty ceded the lands upon which Michigan State University is built. Ellie serves as Indigenous Community Outreach Liaison in the College of Arts and Letters Center for Language Teaching Advancement, and Tribal Liaison with the University Outreach and Engagement Native American Institute.
